CONVERSATIONS FROM STORYEXPE RESIDENTS:

ENTER THE OFFICIAL SCIENCE FICTION & FANTASY COMMUNITY

(only for Storyexpe Residents)

A writer imagines a world, knowing that there will be as many different interpretations of this world as there are readers. Yet the writer will make it seem to each of them as if their own world is unique.

For a mystery & fantasy author, where is it most fascinating to travel through time?

• In the past that I have never experienced, because it is interesting to discover firsthand what I have read so much about.

• In my own past, relive some highlights and possibly correct mistakes.

• In the near future, to anticipate what I will experience.

• In the distant future, to find out what I will never experience.

If you could visit your younger self...

1) Where in the past would you go to visit yourself?
2) What would you say / explain / suggest to yourself, and wouldn’t you absolutely tell to your younger self?

• I would go to a particularly happy and carefree point in my past, telling myself to enjoy it to the fullest and to ignore all in all futile problems.

• I would go to a time of uncertainty, perhaps even desolation of my past, and explain to myself that there is a way out.

• I would simply hand myself a master plan with a fairly precise schedule of what to do to build myself success and happiness. Without giving away any particular secrets, but to make sure that I (my younger self) can build it all by my own strength, consistent with my personality.

• I would simply hand my younger self an almanac with the sports results to come, and tell to bet on the winners. It’s still the easiest way ...and after all nobody has ever demonstrated that it doesn’t work.

The dream you are most afraid of:

• The dream that takes you back to a specific situation in your past, of which you are particularly glad that it is over now.

• The dream of a particularly embarrassing, unpleasant or scary moment, just as it might happen to you in reality.

• The dream that shows you the essence of your real life, without the illusion you created around.

• The very realistic dream of a bleak and very near future in which you don't know what went wrong.

If you could travel back in time:

• You would travel to the past and change it in your favor.

• You would travel to the future in order to take advantage of the information you get.

• You would simply like to relive unique moments of your life.

• Just stepping out of the present and reconnecting with your roots would help you rediscover what is really important in life.

If you could give your younger self 3 pieces of advice (obviously excluding lotto numbers, sports results and stocks to buy), what would you tell?

• Make all the necessary sacrifices, you will be repaid with interests.

• Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Right behind the uncertainty you will find new opportunities you cannot even imagine.

• Cultivate the small pleasures and learn to appreciate the fleeting moments. This is where happiness lies.

• Don't follow trends. Don't chase futile ideals just to try to make easy money. You will only waste a lot of time and have failures from which you cannot learn much.

• Cultivate your passions and build your talents around them. And vice versa. Over time they will mature into something that will make you happier than anything else, and allow you to live well.

The dream you would like to dream:

• The dream that takes you back to a particularly beautiful moment in your past.

• The dream that allows you to experience a hypothetical future.

• A mysterious yet familiar dream, as if from an alternate life, that inspires you to reflect about changes.

• An all in all undefined dream but consisting of such strong and positive emotions, that as soon as you wake up, you would want to do anything to achieve that state in reality.

Some of the most fascinating topics for a mystery & fantasy author:

• Alternative realities.

• Parallel worlds.

• Time travel.

MOST POPULAR TOPICS

Time travel

Time travel is by far the most popular- and the most timeless (no pun intended) topic when it comes to science fiction, as well as to fix your issues of your past. Although the topic of time travel finds more in-depth and sometimes even philosophical facets on Storyexpe than mere science fiction, these often intersect, resulting in very fascinating conversations. However, numerous themes are precisely about film and literature. Not only you will find the classics, but as you explore different areas of the platform, you will probably come across true gems - books and movies you have maybe never heard of.

Parallel worlds

After trime travel, parallel worlds/realities is the topic that fascinates most on Storyexpe (maybe in a parallel world this order is reversed, but we will never know). What fascinates our users so much about the topic? Well, it happens to all of us to wonder what our lives would be like today if we had made different decisions at some point. And the question goes far beyond its science fiction aspect, because as it appears here from many conversations, asking ourselves today what we could have done differently in the past, can help us make the most useful decisions for our tomorrow.
However, it is easy to understand why the topic fascinates so much: it is really intriguing to explore the parallel/alternative visions of Storyexpe users. Sometimes these are very different realities from our own, sometimes they seem barely a step away.

Superheroes

Who hasn't dreamed of becoming a superhero (among those who haven't actually become one in the meantime)? But beware: we have also heard of superheroes who have dreamed of becoming normal again (although we are not aware that they are Storyexpe- users). The most recurring question in this regard is (of course): what superpower would you like to have, if you could choose one. ...And here we are really very surprised by the imagination of some users. The second question is: what would you like to do with your superpower? (No clickbait: in many cases it's really not what you or we would do). The third question, probably less important, is nevertheless part of the discussion: which costume would you choose to be superhero? (Spoiler alert: those who choose invisibility as their superpower gave all the same answer).

You can add your favorite topic, find a niche and create your own community. The most active will gain free visibility (for free, in the featured section above).

PATRICK DEKELTER - AUSTRALIA SUMMER - THE VOICE WITHIN THE RAIN (NOVELLA) +

An invisible nostalgia. The protagonist is haunted by a vague and distant memory, of which he cannot reach the origin. All he can remember is an image, in some way related to his first car.

One day, he accidentally comes across what appears to have been exactly his first car, seemingly abandoned in the front yard of a house. He is interested not only because it is closely related to his indefinite memory, but also because, after selling it seventeen years ago, he had forgotten something very important in the glove compartment.

He contacts the current owner and manages to get into the car. He does not find what he was looking for, but only some sheets of paper, which turn out to be a manuscript by an unknown author. He looks at it absentmindedly and is about to put it away when the title intrigues him.

He takes it with him and begins to read, but at one point, he notices something strange: it is as if it describes his memory. Until then, he considers it just a coincidence, but as he continues reading, it seems to him at times as though he is the protagonist. Although he has never experienced the situations described, there are some similarities that link him to his reality.

In some glimpses, it seems to him that the protagonist is trying to communicate with him through the manuscript. He wonders until the end who the mysterious author might be, when suddenly a clue in the manuscript reconnects him to a particular moment in his past, that may hold the key to understanding not only the manuscript but also some of the decisions in his life that have led him to the present.
